The first female guest for the podcast!
Propaganda Creative has been kind enough to grant me access to another amazing guest. Brittany Stodgell is an incredible talent and its no wonder PC made her a partner of the company. She has a bevy of work here, and be sure to check out Black Sheep Paper Co. because they have some amazing products.
Brittany is one of those creatives that you follow for inspiration. The diversity of her skills is shown simply by how many businesses she is involved in. One thing we have in common is designing for apparel, or pre-production for screen printing. I can appreciate her role as lead designer for Right Mind Printing, which by the way, has the coolest desktop website I've seen in a long time. Props to the PC crew for that project, for sure.
I recorded this episode a few weeks ago and since I had built up a little bit of a backlog, I decided to take a break to focus on family and personal time. I am beyond satisfied with the launch of the podcast. It was very important that I find some female guests for the show because I don't want the audience to become marginalized too early. I believe once the show settles into a groove and the real audience develops, that will happen inevitably. But for now, this show is about me interviewing people I want to interview because I respect the work they do.
Brittany has a lot of similarities to my approach to design. We both use Adobe Illustrator as our primary tool, we both geek over typography and when it comes to printing and screen printing, we share the understanding of how graphic design applies to those types of products.
One particular strength of Brittany's, in my opinion, is her ability to break down the psychology of brand identity. I had challenged her with creating a brand off the top of her head in the episode. As I listened to her answer, the decisions and the reasoning not only made sense, but the exposure to her procedural thinking sparked different ideas of my own.
So far this was easily one of my favorite episodes to publish. I hope I get to catch up with Brittany in the future for more discussion.
Check out our episode and let us know what you think. Thanks for checking out the blog!
